The working vacation; Having Your Cake and Eating it too.
Who doesn’t want to take multiple vacations every year. Better yet, visiting exotic locations around the world while still maintaining a high level of productivity, training staff or meeting with clients. Sounds too good to be true, right? Or maybe you’re thinking that you have to be super rich or have the last name “Trump”. Not at all.
This is my life, at least half the year and I am working toward being on a perpetual vacation while still running two businesses and searching for new opportunities. This has been made possible through the use of technology and a little creativity. Today there are more and more companies converting to virtual offices which means team members can be anywhere in the world and typically work from home.
Sadly, the accounting professional has not embraced this notion, particularly in the small firms. So, I have taken on the mission of educating small and medium size accounting firms with the benefits of the virtual work place. Of course, this is not something that can be done overnight. It takes careful planning and thinking “out of the box”.
I have found that my team members love the virtual work place as well. It’s a great recruiting tool and helps with retention of staff. Not to mention reduced overhead, which translates to higher profits.
This will be the first of a series of articles discussing the benefits, if you’re not already convinced, as well as a step by step plan for implementing a virtual office.
